CELLO
CELLO LESSONS IN MAASTRICHT
If you also melt with the melancholy sounds of the cello, then you are welcome at Kuma during the cello lessons. The cello not only comes into its own as a solo instrument, but also as an accompanying instrument. This can be done with other cellists, in an orchestra, together with the piano or even in a pop band. The instrument is also known as the ‘tenor of the string orchestra’.
The cello is basically an upright violin that you play sitting down. It is built in a variety of sizes, allowing you to learn to play this instrument at an early age. The repertoire ranges from classical, modern to folk music from all over the world. You can rent the cello through Kuma, but your teacher can also advise you on the purchase of your instrument.
This course is taught by:
Marie-José Didderen-Sonneveld
My name is Marie-José Didderen and I give cello lessons at KUMA. At the age of 9 I started playing the cello because I fell in love with the warm sound of the instrument.
Daily practice is important to develop this beautiful sound! It requires muscle exercise and muscle control, but you will see that this increases the fun. Half an hour a day can be enough.
From the age of 8 you can learn to play the cello with me and there are instruments to rent in different sizes.
Making music together is motivating, so playing in an ensemble or orchestra is definitely recommended. KUMA also has plenty on offer for that. If you are already a bit developed on your instrument, you are also very welcome to join the cello ensemble! The bar is not high and fun is paramount!

Sara Noordkamp
Of all instruments, the cello most closely resembles the human voice. It can be low but also very high. It is very versatile, you can of course bow on it, but also on strumming like on a guitar and even on flutes. It is a beautiful solo instrument, but it is also suitable to play together with all other instruments. He has an important voice in a string quartet or symphony orchestra.
I started playing the cello myself when I was 7 years old, I had seen and heard it somewhere and immediately knew, I want that, it was love at first sight! Later I went to study at the conservatory of Maastricht and Tilburg.
For years I have been teaching young and old every day at a different music school. This can also be done in German or English. I also prefer to play in a string quartet, which I think is the most beautiful thing there is.
Joep Willems
Hello, I’m Joep Willems, if you would like to learn to play the cello, please do not hesitate to contact me. Whether you are 8 or 80 years young, the cello will enrich your life. It is not without reason that the cello is very popular loved by many for its sonorous, warm sound. Moreover, it is very versatile; you can really play every conceivable type of music on it. For example, I have been playing in the Philzuid symphony orchestra for over 20 years, where I play classical music from the past 350 years, but that ‘classical music’ also consists of musical, jazz, film, world music, etc. I have accompanied beautiful ballet performances with the Dutch Ballet Orchestra Amsterdam, I have performed several times at the North Sea Jazz festival and I was even briefly employed by Maastricht’s most famous Stehgeiger. For me, teaching cello lessons has always been an indispensable addition to my life as a performing cellist. It always asks me how we can best play and make the cello sound, with special attention to efficiency and relaxation in the technique. of playing the cello. Practical matters such as the rental or purchase of an instrument and accessories, lesson time and duration, and possibilities for playing together with others are discussed during an initial appointment for a free trial lesson.
