BANDLESSON - Special Education

At Kuma, people with an intellectual disability can also have band lessons. The band members can choose the songs that will be played and per song it is determined who will play which instrument. This gives everyone the opportunity to play a different instrument if desired.  It is not necessary to have prior knowledge of an instrument, but is of course welcome.

If you or a family member are interested, you can always come and take a look during our rehearsals in the basement of Centre Céramique on Monday evening.

Freia Schrijver

Hi! My name is Freia Schrijver, and I am a music teacher and band coach for the special education band. I am studying Music Education at the Conservatory of Maastricht. With great enthusiasm, I conduct workshops where we make music together, explore music, and above all, have fun. In my lessons, I enjoy playing with different instruments, music styles, and activities.

I play guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums, and I love to sing. So, I’m all about variety! I also like to play many different styles and dive just as eagerly into pop, rock, and hip-hop as into world music or jazz. During my music lessons, I search with the group for the music they enjoy listening to or making, but also for music they may never have heard before. This way, we discover together what is all out there in the world of music, and students can develop their own musical identity. What I enjoy the most?

Music lessons where everyone can be themselves, where there is space for creativity, and where we create something beautiful together. I look forward to getting to know you all and making music together!
